Tellen in het Frans: hilarisch moeilijk!

Tot 70 is het nog te doen. Maar daarna worden de Franse cijfers bizar ingewikkeld. Waarom zegt een Fransman ‘vier-twintig-vijf’ voor 85?

Un, deux, trois… Goed. Je moet ze uit je hoofd leren, maar van 1 tot 69 zijn cijfers in het Frans nog redelijk goed te volgen. Na soixante-neuf gebeurt er echter iets dat voor niet-Fransen als een complete verrassing komt. Daarna begint het rekenen…!

Rekenen om de Franse getallen te begrijpen

Kijk maar:

70 = soixante-dix ofwel : ’60 plus 10’

75 = soixante-quinze ofwel ’60 plus 15

Nog ingewikkelder wordt het boven de tachtig:

80 = quatre-vingt ofwel: ‘4 maal 20’

87 = quatre-vingt-sept ofwel: ‘4 maal 20 plus 7’

En boven de negentig is het echt van de gekke..

90 = quatre-vingt-dix ofwel: ‘4 maal 20 plus 10’

98 = quatre-vingt-dix-huit > letterlijk ‘vier-twintig-achttien’ ofwel ‘4 maal 20 plus 18’

België en Zwitserland

In de Franssprekende delen van Zwitserland en België hebben 70, 80 en 90 wel ‘eigen’ getalnamen, namelijk: septante (zeventig), octante (tachtig) en nonante (negentig). Maar in Frankrijk zijn de veel moeilijkere ‘reken-cijfers’ een overblijfsel uit het Gallisch, waarin per twintigtallen werd geteld.

Aan de telefoon

Ook als je heel goed Frans spreekt dan blijven deze cijfers ingewikkeld om tijdens een gesprek snel in je hoofd te vertalen. Aan de telefoon hanteren wij daarom altijd het trucje om de dubbele cijfers uit een bijvoorbeeld opgenoemd telefoonnumer los te herhalen. De andere persoon zegt: “Quatre-vingt-quinze.. (95)” Jij onderbreekt en herhaalt: “Donc: Neuf. Cinq…” Meestal gaat de persoon aan de lijn daarna vanzelf over in losse cijfers. Veel makkelijker.

Maar voor alle andere gevallen…  een kwestie van dom stampen helaas!
